“Notre Dame” is French for "Our Lady" and refers to Mother Mary, the patroness of the school. She is featured prominently on the Golden Dome of the Main Building on Notre Dame's campus. A classic Fighting Irish huddle chant honoring that history starts with a player or coach calling out “Our Lady of Victory," to which the players respond, "Pray for Us!"
